After leaving rainbow we headed up to Harvey Bay, apparently australias retirement home, where we had a compulsory over night stop. I'd heard very bad things about Harvey so I was glad we only had one night here. It didnt seem that bad when we got there, the bay was nice and it was heaps bigger than Rainbow, but if every tour guide tells you that even the birds fly upside down over it because even they wouldnt s*** on it then it cant have been good! Ok so saying goodbye to hearvy we headed up to Kroombit on our second longest drive, 5 hours i think! We had a good driver though: Deano, he'd been with us since rainbow, and with lots of stop offs the journey went quickly and we were soon in Kroombit slapping some steaks on the barbie! After a good feed we had to muster up the goats, on horse back, for the goat rodeo. Me Marcus and rob all did this and it was definitely one of the highlights of Kroombit. I was riding Arrow a moody old man who didn't get on with the other horses, but i did ok considering this was my first time on a horse. To muster the goats we had to basically ride into them and cry out 'Hay up bub bub!' and hope they moved where we wanted them to. If the goats weren't going fast enough the horses would give them a little nibble to get them going. It took us about half an hour to get them all in the pen, and then we headed back to the station to meet up with the others. We did a bit of shotgun shooting before the goat rodeo and our driver decided it would be fun to blow up some gas canisters as well (I've got a good video of this!) The goat rodeo consisted of us getting into teams of three, naturally me rob and Marcus went together, and wresteling a goat to the floor and pretending to brand it, all in the quickest time possible. We did ok, i think we came about 4th, we probably could have won if Marcus had know what to do when we caught the goat, but in the end the Manc girls, Clair Stef and Kirsty won! They also happened to win both quizes on the bus errgh! After the rodeo we had a bit of fun with a cow prodder (I won't get in to this) and had a bit of dinner, which included some mystery meat! (It turned out it was just deer.) The evenings entertainment consisted of learning how to crack a whip and the mechanical bull, I prefer to call it the nutcracker though! Rob managed to hang on the longest, whereas i, like many people, was off at the first buck! We played a few drinking games round the fire and did a bit of drunken line dancing before hitting the hay (literally.)
We woke up at 6am the next day, to the sound of shotguns, had breakfast in the freezing cold (Yes Oz does get cold in the winter) and waited on the bus driver. He was half an hour late, apparently he set his alarm for 5:30pm instead of am and this was the first time he'd been late, we all knew it was the drink! Anyways we hit the road for Airlie beach...
