Day 18
Woke up this morning feeling energised at the thought of spending some on the beach swimming in the surf.
We made out way from the apartment around 10am and walked the bay to get some perspective of the town and foreshore. The weather is overcast, the sun breaks through in patches and is quite intense so I know sunscreen is a must when we head to the beach. We walked around 5km before working up a sweat and deciding to go for a swim.
On our way we passed through immaculate gardens that surround the municipal officers and I saw a number of workers taking a lot of pride in maintaining the cities assets. The towns colour pallet is predominantly royal blue and white and everything is themed around this, even the local football team.
The surf was larger than the previous day and this had obvious turned off a lot of holiday makers with young children because the beach was sparse comparatively. We spent the next few hours body surfing waves and laying on the beach working up an appetite.
We had a quick bite to eat at a cafe beneath our apartment then had a couple of drinks at a bar called La Perla over looking Playa De La Concha which is a protected beach popular with young families. Enormous sea wall protect the town from the ocean stretching vertically in places to heights greater than 10m. It's an impressive sight!
We retuned to the beach for the afternoon and the tide was coming in pushing the surf well over 2m. We spent the next few hours in the water having a ball and it made me appreciate surf and Australian culture.
We left the beach after 8pm, cleaned up and went the old town for pintxos. We took a punt on a place and filled our plates. Pintxos are generally cold or warm placed across the bar like a buffet. You eat what you pay for and it's relatively in expensive. The food was pretty good but I wasn't blown away. Apparently they can cook a mean steak so that will be the aim at some point.
We had a couple of drinks and I decided to call it a night leaving Ryan to his own devices.
