10/11/07 - 12/11/07 Sydney Central YHA
Arrived in Sydney around 10pm and got the train straight to Central Station. I'd already booked the YHA as this was where I stopped last time I was over in Oz so I knew how easy it was to find from the station and also knew that the cafe served awesome (and cheap) food... so when we arrived I was gutted to hear that the cafe was in the middle of refurbishments so closed... aaargh!
Anywho, we arrived there pretty late and after a night of no sleep in an airport, followed by a 8hr (ish) plane ride I wasn't really making much sense. Luckily one of the guys in the hostel took pity on us and passed us a couple of bottles of red from his stash, along with a bar of llindt chocolate... mmmm! ....and so we didn't have to disturb the other two girls in our room we even got to go and sit up on the rooftop terrace by the dinky pool, which closes around 10pm. We certainly felt special!!!
I'm not really into big cities and we have both already done the main tourist things only in 2006 so we had originally planned to only spend 1 night here, but as check out's so early and we were drinking red wine til 4am we decided to stay a couple of nights.
While in Sydney we went to the opera house and harbour bridge. As we'd already been we didn't do that much else (other than sleep), but if you'd never been before I would definitely recommend the bridge climb (I did this last time and it was awesome!). Last time I also loved the chinese garden of friendship... very strange tranquil garden that despite being slap bang in the middle of a city manages to feel tranquil and detatched. Darling harbour is also worth a visit.
