Another Bolivian bus journey and another nightmare... The Bolivian way of checking bags in is stupid! You have to take your bags upstairs for them to lower it down using a rope and put it on the bus. However, our bags ended up on the wrong bus! There was a lot of confusion at the bus terminal and we really thought that we had lost our backpacks, but by some miracle we got them back in La Paz!
As for La Paz it is probably my least favourite place that I have visited. With the exception of a few buildings, notably Iglesia San Francisco, it is quite an ugly city full of cheap markets, although the Mercado de Hechiceria (Witches` Market) is quite good. Plus, I was ill, which meant I wasn`t able to mountain bike down the World`s most dangerous road. Instead I watched England lose to Portugal on penalties, which after having endured Germany beating Argentina on penalties the previous day was a double-blow two days running!
Nevertheless, I still managed to have a good time in La Paz, as we met up with Anita, Isobel and Lucy for a bit, and the hostel we stayed in was cool. We spent every night there because there was a 72 hour prohibition in Bolivia due to the elections! We met some really nice people there too - Gudrun and Joanna hope to see you again at some point, and Shaun thanks for the BBQs and everything.
