We eventually got to Sucre in the early hours of Sunday morning after a bit of a nightmare from Uyuni... We couldn't get a direct bus from Uyuni to Sucre, and as we didn't want to stay in Uyuni (it's awful!) we planned to get a bus to Potosi and sleep on the bus until we could get another one to Sucre. We hadn't even been on the bus for 5 minutes and we encountered our first problem - Polly's daysack got stolen. We spent the next 6 hours cold, tired and angry on a ramshackle Bolivian bus to Potosi. Upon arrival in Potosi we realised that sleeping on the bus probably wasn't the best idea! However, we were unable to find a hostel with any room for us, so we thought enough is enough and got a taxi to Sucre, which is about a 3 hour drive away! Potosi is famous for its mines, but in the short time we spent there we saw lots of drunken people, a cat-fight between two Bolivian women and a mugging! Thus, not a place I want to return to! Our first night in Sucre was spent in an awful hostel, but we were too tired to care! Plus, we were only there about 6 hours before we checked out to join Adam in his hostel and watch the England v Ecuador game (1-0).
Although our time in Sucre didn't start off too well we did manage to have a good few days there. Sucre is a really pretty place - lots of old-fashioned pristine white buildings, a nice Plaza and it was warm! I went to the Museo de Arte Indigena, which had lots of examples of weavings and musical instruments from the various indigenous neighbourhoods. I also did quite a tough, but worthwhile walk up to La Recoleta viewpoint, where I watched the sunset over the city and the surrounding mountains.
