Lucy's Travels
29th November - Arrived in Darwin at 2pm, again, without accommodation but asked at the info desk and managed to land on our feet. We are paying about 10quid each for a lovely room, bathroom and fridge! The hostel (the Cavenagh) has its own pool and bar, which is great compared to where we were last time paying about the same for just a bed! Anyway, we had a look around the city (not loads to see) and booked trips and had a beer!!
30th November - 4am start to go to Kakadu National Park. Had a crazy driver who jumped out of the van every time she saw an animal. At one point she jumped out of the van and pulled a frill neck lizzard from its nest! We went on the Mary river to see crocs and saw about 2! Pretty rubbish! Then went to view abo art and climbed Ubirr a rock with a 360 view (where Mick Dundee did his spinny thing with the whip!). Off to camp (this time had a few glasses of wine and i-pod)
1st November - 5am start went to Gunlom Falls climbed for about 30min and swam in clear blue waters looking over the cliff at the view, whilst standing under a waterfall! At the base of the falls looking up was spectacular but no swimming here - crocs swim instead. Then went to another swim point, again very beautiful!
2nd November - Had a chill out day, in other words cant spend any money so made our own lunch at the hostel, walked along the esplanade and had a free meal using a coupon!
3rd November - 6am start picked up to go to Litchfield Park. Lovely people on the trip Aussies and Tasmanians. Went on a jumping crocs tour down the Adelaide river, saw none even though the river is inhabited with 10 thousand! We then went to Watimo Falls and had a swim under falls we were both a bit apprehensive because there were signs everywhere saying: 'dont risk your lives' with a picture of a man being eaten!! We then viewed Florence Falls, which are a lot taller than the others and then had another swim in Burley Rock Hole. These are a series of pools were water trickles through the cliffs forming cold areas to swim and sit under tiny falls (best part of the trip!). Made it back to Darwin but before we returned stopped off at the beach for champagne and fresh prawns (ones with their heads on yummy tell granny!) to watch the sun set! This was a much more up-market tour but cheaper!?
4th November - Hired a couple of bikes and rode around the esplanade but for those of you that know me well I cant ride a bike unless im in my spinning class! It was a bit of a disaster because we went the wrong way and I was having a diva moment woops! Flying out of darwin on the 5th at 6am!
