Lucy's Travels
th November - As I mentioned in my last postcard we left Hong Kong at 3pm on friday 25th and after a smooth flight to Cairns (our stop over) we were greeted with a 10 hour wait in the departure lounge (nice!!). It was a tiring day and we didnt get much sleep in the airport as you would expect. However, we arrived in Alice after a 2 hour flight and our next minor problem was that we didnt have anywhere to stay. We saw a few people advertising rooms and found a familiar sign for the \'Malanka\' a shoddy hostel place (very similar to halls of residence) in the centre of town. We had a bed and air-con and thats all that really mattered. Alice Springs is a bizzare place. It\'s a bit of a ghost town with not a lot going on.
th November - Up at 4am and on a coach at 5.30am to go to Uluru. The journey was about 5 hours to Kings Canyon and the temperature was quite cool, which was very lucky indeed as the climb and descent up the rock was 3hours! It was a struggle at first but once we were up the main part it was ok. The scenery was stunning! On the way down it rained, thank goodness because you work up a bit of a sweat! We made our way to camp but stopping off at a viewpoint to watch the sun set over ayres rock! Yes I did say camping and I didnt sleep the whole night. At first I refused to go to the loo because there were grasshoppers in there so I was bursting and then I thought someone was trying to break into the tent (it was just the wind). Least I have learnt one thing so far - I cant camp - unless Im drunk!
th November - Woken up at 3.50am to watch the sun rise over ayres rock and walk the 2hours around the rock itself, again quite cool, was wearing a fleece! We then went to Kata Tjuta another rock thing, which was ok (another hour walk). On the way back to alice we stopped off at view points to view some more rocks, sorry cant remember their names!
th Novemeber - caught a flight from Alice to Darwin
