Lucy & Cherise's Big Adventure
Day after inca trail saw a special offer to go to manu biosphere national park, part of the amazon jungle the day after. We packed our bags and went. 1st day, scary bus trip through cloud forest on windy roads thousands of feet up. 1st night shared a room with half a dozen cockroaches and Lucy got a huge beetle on her trouser leg - the whole camp thought she was being attacked by a snake by the sounds of things!!! Next day great boat trip up the river and saw all sorts of wild life, monkeys and anteaters. Next day, went to the lakes and saw giant otters, monkeys and a caiman. Over the few days saw all sorts of great wildlife and many species of birds. Guide thought it would be a good idea to go on a night walk through the jungle. We both decided that nothing was going to crawl on us, so equipt with wellies, baseball cap, hood and coats zipped up to our noses set out, nearly suffocating with the heat!!! Saw nocturnal monkeys but apart from that about 50 tarantulas!!!! One of the last nights, stayed in a lodge and met Pancho (Hotdog), a 6 and half month old pet tapir! So cute - was rescued when it was a baby from a Jaguar. Final day bus couldnt reach us cos the road had collapsed due to heavy rain so had to catch 2 taxis, 6 people in one and 8 in the other plus luggage and the cook and guide had to go in the boot. Not surprisingly, due to the weight and the speed of our taxi driver (who thought he was a formula 1 driver) got a flat tyre, finally managed to meet our bus and get home. Arrived to hostel free from cockroaches but with many mozzie bites!!! Had a fantastic trip!
