4 day inca trail. Didnt get off to a good start - the only road to the start of the trail was completely blocked so everyone off the 4 coaches stuck on the road had to get out and move all the rocks - good team work - only took 30 mins. First day quite easy except when it started pouring down and we had to put the tents up in a random field. Next day 6am start for what was unknown to us going to be the hardest day of the trek. Climbed up to 4200 metres via steps, steps and more steps in freezing cold temperatures with non stop rain!!!! Most of our stuff was cold and wet so not that good nights sleep. Early start again - trek for 10 hours though through beautiful scenary with many inca remains. Cloud forest and hummingbirds and orchids! Final day, 4.30am start. Mad two hour rush to the sun gate to beat the other 150 trekkers. Unfortunately, when arrived, macchu picchu was covered in fog but it soon cleared as we descended and made everything worthwhile. By the end of the trip we were absolutely exhausted, smelly (as no showers) and avoided every step in sight.....but was one of the best things we have ever done!!!
