Day 67 - Mon 5th Jan - Lake Tekapo

Only half a day on the bus today from Dunedin to Tekapo and we arrived about 1pm.

That was just in time for me to head out on a 2 hour horse ride in the afternoon. I had been researching good riding places in NZ since I arrived (good = suitable for an experienced rider) and the website for this place looked quite good. When I turned up I was told that the whole thing would be walking only and I was with 3 total beginners. Not Happy.

The scenery on the ride was very nice and Lake Tekapo is a lovely setting, but in terms of riding wasn't great. And actually I had to swap horses with the guide half way through as mine had a bit of paddy on one the down hill bits and she wanted to check him out. But it was a pleasant way to see the scenery.

Back in the hostel in the evening I bumped into Rosan (who I have been bumping into every couple of days since Taupo), and we sat in the hostel, had something to eat and played cards. Then we saw an amazing sunset out over the lake. Check out the photos, it was absolutely stunning.

I only had one night in Tekapo and was off to Christchurch the next day.
