I left Melbourne on Friday and got on a flight to Cairns connecting in Brisbane. Caroline and I were excited to be heading further away from Sydney but as soon as we arrived (Local time 7.30pm) we felt the heat on us - It was so humid. We got the shuttle bus to our hostel which took about 10mins and checked into our room which only had one tiny fan! It was very hot!

We saw that the hostel was recruiting for staff so we managed to get jobs as the mini bus drivers in return for free accommodation! I was very nervous on my first trip and the lads in the back had a good laugh at me but by the end of the day I was a professional...Maybe I missed my calling?! I have been driving the bus all week but have now finished my shift and can now relax.

There is a lagoon right on the beach here where I have spent a lot of time, we even had a BBQ there the other day which was nice. The weather is not dropping below 31c and there is no wind so it is too hot to do anything!

Yesterday I went out to the Great Barrier Reef and did some snorkelling. I was on my own but lucking bumped into someone on the boat whom I had met in the hostel a week before! We went so far out and saw so many fishes...I even duck dived and touched loads of massive clams - They are like velvet and when you touch them they close up! It was a fantastic day and the reef was absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely go again.

Caroline has got a job on a boat for a couple of days where she cleans all day for them but she gets 3 free dives a day. So I have been on my own here for a bit but have made loads of friends that it hasn't felt like i've been on my own!

Me and a couple of friends rented a car in the week and drove just over an hour south of Cairns, visiting Babina Boulders - Where there is a lake - Fresh water pool and you can swing off a tree into the water - I attempted this but slipped and landed in the water on my side...My leg was very red when I came out! We also visited Josephine Falls which had a waterfall and a rock pool - Connection the 2 was a slide!! That was great fun!
