Lucy's Travels
We arrived in Rarotonga at 7am and were immediately greeted by the friendly staff at the airport. We then got a free transfer to our accommodation. The lady driving explained everything that went on at the island and seemed like she was on drugs!!
We got to our accommodation and again were greeted by the friendly staff. We stayed at Backpackers International hostel which I would definitely recommend. Our room had two single beds and a dressing table. The showers and toilets were clean and there was a kitchen so we could cook our own food.
We headed into the town which was tiny, it took 45 minutes to go around the entire island!! We headed back and had some dinner. In the evening we headed to the Staircase bar where we saw some locals dancing. They had a band and both males and females dancing. They also showed people from the crowd how to bellydance!!
After a few bevvies we then headed to a nearby bar "Banana Court". There was a group of 6 of us and we had some drinks - A Jack Daniels for me - and also enjoyed some games of pool. The bar shut at midnight and our hostel provided a mini bus so we got a lift back to where we were staying.
We decided to light a fire on the beach so we took our beers and went onto the beach. There we were joined by the others from our hostel and we all stood around with our beers and chatting. When the fire started to go out we headed indoors for some card games and eventually sloped off to bed at 4am!!
We had the entire next day as we had to check in for our flight at 11pm. We spent the day on the beach, we had made a few friends so Rob and I buried his mate Rich in the sand - He asked for breasts, one bigger than the other and we were only too happy to oblige!!
Later in the afternoon Lisa, from Hertfordshire, joined me and Rich also so the three of us spent the afternoon enjoying the rays. We saw sea snakes, blue starfish and sea cucumbers - the water was so clear!!
In the evening we stayed in the kitchen having a couple of drinks and then left for the airport. There were 6 of us on the same flight, including Rob & Rich so we all stuck together. We made plenty of friends here and it was a shame we didnt have longer on the island. However, looking forward to Fiji and the things we are going to get to see and do.
