Another wonderful day in paradise. Well, except for the traffic. The traffic here in Dar es Salaam is very bad. It makes me want to ride a bike or maybe just work from home:) We were in a traffic jam today that I cannot even begin to describe. It was crazy and everyone just got out of their cars and started arguing over how to fix the problem! It was kind of amusing. Oh and Mutta was driving, which was scary even without the crazy traffic!
Last night we sadly left Samaki Lodge in Zanzibar and explored Stone Town for a few hours with our friends, Ali and Kepe. We went to the market and also to the old slave market, which is now a church. It was sad and distubing to see how the slaves were kept.
The boat ride back to Dar was very "bumpy" and we all felt a little sick. Thankfully, we had some zofran (thanks to Dr. Waggie!) to keep us from vomiting.
On our arrival back to Dar, we attended a final planing meeting for the wedding we will attend tomorrow. It was all in swahili, so we had no idea what was said most of the time. However, we clapped when everyone else clapped and enjoyed the local beer (and 7up for Abella).
After the meeting, we went to Safari Carnivore (yest that is the real name) for some BBQ dinner and dancing. Everyone enjoyed their time and we were happy to find that they had "regular" toilets!
Today we went to spend the day with Edward (Mugisha the great) and Mama Adena. Here, most mothers go by the name Mama and then the name of their first born child. So, Amy would be known as Mama Andrew:) I met Edward and Mama Adena when we visited Denmark 2 years ago, so I know them well. They entertained us at their home and fed us a wonderful lunch. Adena, their oldest daughter, even taught me how to make pilau - Mutta's favorite Tanzanian dish.
Later, Edward wanted to take us to a place with live music. Well, the place he took us was the same place we were at the night before, Safari Carnivore! He had no idea we had just been there. Our server was laughing and must have thought either the service was amazing and we came back for more - or we where crazy Americans! Either way, we enjoyed our time there. Now it is late and we must get up very early to prepare for the wedding of Martha and Evo tomorrow.
Happy 10 year Anniversary to Rob and Amy (my sister and brother-in-law)!!! Rob, sorry we stole your wife and left you with all 3 kids! We love you!
