Another long break from blogging, I know, but again; I'm busy. This week I took a much-needed mini-vacation with my best friend to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. After a seemingly quick 5 hour drive east-ish to the Atlantic Ocean, we arrived in South Carolina and started squealing the second we saw palm trees. We found our hotel and walked (yes, walked...be jealous) straight to the beach where we combed for seashells and anybody our age (the seashells were easier to find) as we walked towards the setting sun. Did I mention it was 75 degrees out? In November?
The following day we went right out to the beach to tan our ghostly-white selves in the 72 degree weather. Oddly enough nobody else was in a bathing suit...apparently this was cold weather for the "natives" (i.e. retirees). 5 hours later we were burned to the point of no return and I had a sunglass tan for the ages. We gladly went the shade and safety of Hot Dog Harbor and had some of the best hot dogs in the history of my life (and that's not just because we were starving and burnt to a crisp). We returned to the hotel, dressed in real clothes, wolfed some sushi at the random Japanese sushi restaurant down the street and obviously saw Breaking Dawn Part 1 (which may or may not have been the second time I've seen it...don't judge). Like the other grandparents vacationing in Hilton Head, I don't believe we were awake past 9:30pm.
Because we didn't learn our lesson the day before, we headed back to the beach for a few hours and watched a bunch of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins swimming around in front of us before remembering how burned we were. At this point in time some Southern barbecue from One Hot Mama's was necessary, and I demanded that we find the pirate-themed miniature golf place a few miles down the island. It did not disappoint. We were not done with the beach, as we decided it was an excellent idea to drink a bottle of wine each while watching the sunset...and the moon rise. We then went to a frozen daquiri bar aaaaaand then apparently got lamb tagine somewhere. Needless to say, I believe we made our mark on the quiet retired community of Hilton Head.
