After a bit of a hiatus, I'm back with one of my favorite pictures of my little otter muffins. Brighton, a female and the oldest of our southern sea otter pups, happened to be the bravest of all, diving head first into the jack-o-lantern we gave her and the other pups the Saturday before Halloween.
While timid at first, Brighton immediately ripped off the top of the jack-o-lantern to get to the ice and shrimp that were hiding inside. After eating all of the shrimp (the other two pups did not appreciate the jack-o-lantern like Brighton did), Brighton promptly nudged the pumpkin into the water, pulled it down to the underwater viewing window, flipped it over, put her head inside the top of the pumpkin, and jetted up to the surface of the exhibit where she spun around in circles...with the pumpkin on her head.
Not only did Brighton enjoy her do-it-yourself costume, she enjoyed smashing the pumpkin to pieces over the next hour or so, happily smashing it against the waterline of the acrylic and sloshing water all over unsuspecting guests on the other side. Next year we have decided to cut the hole in the bottom of the jack-o-lantern so that Brighton can wear it as a giant pumpkin head! Happy Halloween!
