Lovewells vs The World
Today we really went into the desert on road to Las Vegas. We made lots of stops and saw cool things along the way. Daniel At the desert discovery centre I saw giant ants... So I stayed away from them thank you very much. Baby jaguar spotted a lizard so she snuck up to it and got really close before it skedaddled away. There were desert tortoises, but we didn't get to see them because a school group were doing a practice for their Memorial Day show. They had a huge rock collection and the rocks came from the desert all around. The old woman meteorite was on display...it was huge, in fact it is the second biggest in America. It had come from actual space. Further on the way we went to the Route 66 museum, saw the worlds biggest thermometer and a deserted road where we found an oasis that was a soda lake. We did truckspotting bingo and found all the different kinds of trucks except for an ice cream van. We are still hoping to find that one! When we got to Las Vegas we walked along the main road to see the lights and shows. It was noisy and crowded and too Blingy-lighty and I was glad when we left. Gemma Mad Greek: The Mad Greek was a restaurant which served lots of delicious Greek food. They also had delicious strawberry milkshakes, with real strawberries, which was great. There were lots of Greek statues around the outside, and all in all was very cool. Zzyxz road and salt lake and oasis: The first thing I thought when I saw the name of this road was... What a weird name for a road! It is a Native American Indian name as this is part of the Mohave national park. We drove along the road for ages until we were almost at the edge of the salt lake, which was massive. We didn't get out until the end of the road, and on the way we saw mountain goats, and the lake from a different angle, which made it look like it was water. When we finally got out, the temperature was sweltering - it was about 38 degrees Celsius. We walked down to an oasis like lake, where we took some photos and left quickly after we heard a strange rustling. On the road again! The Vegas strip was very long, with lots of cool things to look at. At the Venetian, there were gondola boats on a river, which were very cool, but expensive. When darkness fell, all the lights went on, and were awesome. At treasure island hotel there was a waterfall, which got lit up, and about every 15 minutes or so the water would stop running, and it would turn into the volcano. The volcano was very hot, and we were about ten meters away from it, so we could only imagine how hot the people standing next to it would have been. After the fire had stopped blasting, the waterfall came back on, which cooled the rocks off. The Vegas strip was an unforgettable experience!
