In order to get to Koh Tao we had to take a 7 hour night ferry, none of us had travelled on a night ferry before so we had no idea what to expect. In true Thailand style this night ferry was a large boat with 55 mattresses lined next to each other in two rows with a corridor down the middle, you would have to see it to believe it! Lucky all four of us were next to each other so it wasn't too bad. I thought arriving at 6am was going to be a nightmare but I was immediately excited to finally be reunited with the blazing sunshine. So we trundled along with our backpacks and found ourselves a beach hut, we were going to get two huts but soon realised that it was more cost effective to have one hut between four of us and being the cheap skates that we are we agreed upon a hut with two double beds pushed together, thinking we would spend most of the time at the beach, little did we know the hassle this tiny hut would cause.
Our first day was spent soaking up the rays at the beach in front of the hut' ecstatic to be wearing a bikini rather than a rain Mac. That evening we went on an organised bar crawl inclusive of a pool party and a lady boy cabaret show. Unfortunately towards the end of the night I decided to act like a Muppet... Unannounced I ran across the road and jumped at Rob and threw myself head first at the pavement resulting in an egg shaped lump on the back of my head and a mild concussion for a couple of days. Now realistically feeling the way that I did I probably should have stayed in bed, but its almost impossible to stay inside when your staying in a beach hut with one tiny fan, not to mention you only have such a short amount of time in each place so no time to waste. Instead we rented mopeds and visited the other recommended beaches on the island. Firstly we went across to shark island beach and rented kayaks and snorkelling gear for the day. It was absolutely beautiful rowing around all the little bays avoiding rocks that were crawling with crabs, in fact after a while at sea Holly and I fancied ourselves for the Olympic rowing team. Later that night we discovered an incredible BBQ restaurant and gorged on chicken and beef skewers- not typically Thai food I know but still one of the best meals I have had an I'm not ashamed to say that we ate it on more than one occasion. Later on it became clear the boys were keen for a lads night having given me and Holly the slip whilst we were buying a beer in a 7`11 (living in such small hot space can definitely put a strain on friendships haha) so me and Holly decided to have a night in. This was short lived having showered and got in to our pyjamas by 9pm we lay staring at the ceiling in the sweltering heat, looked at each other a decided to go out. Unfortunately there was only one busy bar and the boys were in it so after hours spent at opposite sides of the bar on our 'separate' nights out we walked home together. The next day we rented mopeds again and went across to tanote bay for some cliff diving. I know what your thinking.. god no.. Don't do any more damage to yourself, but actually the journey there and back was more risky! Let's just say Chris was not the most competent driver and I even fell off the back of the bike at one point, luckily we were only going about 5 miles an hour and I came out of it with a couple of scratches. Anyway I couldn't cliff dive because I didn't have suitable footwear to climb the rocks so spent most of the afternoon in the water with the boys underwater camera videoing Rob jumping in and wishing I was able to I'm sure the view would have been incredible. Koh Tao was beautiful and the weather was amazing but having spent four nights in a tiny beach hut with one fan and one plug socket and no room to breathe we decided that we deserved a treat and some rest and relaxation in Koh Samui so we looked online and booked a gorgeous apartment room in a hotel for only 7 quid a night, we were beyond excited!!
