It only took a couple of hours to get across on the boat to Koh Phi Phi a welcome trip given the recent lengthly journeys I had taken. Unfortunately the weather had got even worse (which I did not think was possible) being chucked off of a boat in the pouring rain with no where to stay was not the way we had pictured Phi Phi at all!! Shopping or haggling for somewhere to stay was the last thing we wanted to do but luckily we had met two lads Rob and Chris in Phucket who had gone to Phi Phi the day before so we contacted them and went and booked in at their accommodation! (I was confident that they would have made a good decision when choosing accommodation assured mainly by the fact that they were the ones who introduced me to these incredible 7"11 toasties- sensible thoughts again) The four of us soon came to realise that the only thing to do on an island when it's raining is to sit in bars and drink .. Mainly as a means of shelter and free wifi of course! The first night here was my first experience drinking a bucket (yes a bucket- a way of cheap drinking in Thailand where you buy a bucket from a stall that comes with a full small bottle of alcohol and two mixers of your choice then you wander round like an absolute pillock holding your bucket and drinking out of a straw). They are undeniably effective if your main aim is to be completely and utterly hammered. That night we went to Thai Boxing bar and easily convinced Rob to go in and fight another customer just so we could get another free bucket (having become bucket fiends within an hour). The only way I could possibly sum up our complete intoxication that night is just to say that at one point all four of us were the only people jumping in the Sea fully
Clothed in front of a nightclub full of people, Holly later fell asleep in a plastic chair in the middle of the club for a number of hours and we all woke up in one bed completely confused having passed out in our sodden clothes. Bet your already impressed by my attempts to be cultural and see the sights of Thailand ey! I hate to admit the next couple of nights followed suit..more buckets, beer pong and dancing beachside at clubs and fire shows! We did manage to go on a snorkelling trip one afternoon (the only time it was not raining) It was beautiful, we snorkelled at mango bay and went to visit and feed monkeys at monkey beach .. Of course we were still napping our horrendous bucket hangovers off on the boat in between destinations! After 3 nights of heavy drinking in rain macs the four of us thought it was about time we moved on to Koh Tao on the East side of Thailand hoping (still) for some sunshine! You will be glad to know the weather did not disappoint!
