We traveled across to Koh Samui on a high speed Catamaran..start as you mean to go on!! Possibly the best boat trip yet, we all lay out on the top deck and fell asleep in the sunshine and arrived at Koh Samui within 2 hours. Once we arrived a taxi took us directly to our hotel, its was one of the most stress free journeys yet, usually we have to ask on numerous occasions whether we are in the right place, where is our stop etc.
When we arrived at the hotel we were so excited to see our rooms and they did not disappoint. The moment that the porter pushed our door open Holly and I could not contain our excitement and started running around screaming like absolute nutters. It was a million miles away from what we are used to; the bed was huge, the balcony was bigger than most rooms we have stayed in, the bathroom had a bath AND shower, we had a kitchen..and the icing on the cake, we got given free bathrobes and towels. I have to admit we took great joy in strolling around in these bathrobes for the majority of our stay. The downside to booking this luxury hotel would probably be that it was not located very close to the Chaweng town centre, which we discovered having walked home for over an hour on the first night. This was not a problem as we spent most of the time at the hotel poolside or lounging in our rooms, in fact honestly if anyone was to ask me anything about Koh Samui the likelihood is that I wouldn't be able to tell them as i barely experienced the Island. On the couple of occasions that we did venture out in the evenings we took to hitch hiking in to the centre of town, yes hitch hiking. We accidentally fell in to this habit after we asked a truck driver on the first night for directions in to town and he offered us a lift in the back. After enjoying our free lift so much we decided this would be our new mode of transport and by the end of the four days on the island Holly had perfected the damsel in distress in the middle of the road routine.
Having our own kitchens probably had to be the best thing about this hotel. On the second day here we went to huge tesco and planned to make our own spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread one night and spaghetti carbonara on the next. Yes two pasta dishes- we are not made of money!! It was great though, Rob made us a delicious bolognese and we washed it down with a few Changs on our extensive balcony, I thoroughly enjoyed the first homemade meal of the trip. The following evening we decided to check out the delights of the nightlife in Koh Samui, having a nice hotel room encouraged Holly and I to actually want to look nice so we even put a bit of make up on and the straighteners came out of the bottom of my bag, unfortunately as creatures of habit, having decided that the cocktails in the bars were too expensive within an hour or so of getting in to town we spent our evening all dolled up sat in the isle of a 711 drinking beer and ordering one cheese and ham toastie after another. Classy!! Saying that, we thought we had a bad night but the next morning Rob arrived back at the hotel wearing only his boxers with no belongings and no memory of his night... sounds like a travesty but this was probably one of the best days I have had. Rather than wallowing in self pity we decided to drink to commiserate and went to the shop to buy numerous bottles of vodka and mixer at 3pm. We then spent the day running around the hotel causing chaos, joking around in the pool, I even managed to whip up a Carbonara at one point in an attempt to sober us all up. It didn't work! I think Chris may have even fallen asleep and spent the night on the deck chair on the balcony. It soon became clear why we hadn't been staying in such nice places- luckily the staff saw the funny side to our antics.
So that is it, our four nights living in luxury for rest and relaxation actually ended up being some of the most chaotic days I have had since travelling; Hitch Hiking and over indulging on Vodka, beer, pasta and toasties. What more could you want...so Holly and I headed over to Koh Panghan for Full Moon Party Madness with raging vodka hangovers, leaving Chris and Rob behind in Koh Samui to nurse their thick heads in luxury. Great!!
