Back in Sydney Well we have arrived at our final destination of the trip. We landed on the 29th as planned (only an hour delay so not bad for an internal flight.) This made it, with the time difference, about 8ish when we arrived at the hotel. We were staying at O'Malley's again so we already knew the route and got straight on our way. Last time we only booked a standard room, however knowing we were here for longer we had booked their harbour view room with kitchen facilities. Well when they said harbour room, looking at the map back in England, the harbour we thought was just next to the bridge, not too far out but enough so we didn't get charged a fortune for a bridge view (you would not believe what people charge for the NYE period in Sydney), however when we pulled the blinds the view was stunning, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera house in full view! We couldn't believe it, we had decided to go on a party boat as we didn't think we would have a good enough view so we couldn't believe our luck. Anyone staying in Sydney over NY who can't afford to go on any boats or are not interested in queuing for 20 hours for a good spot (believe it, people are queuing for miles now while I right this at 9 in the morning) then I would suggest booking the harbour room and having a party with all your friends as you could not get a better view if you tried and at half the price!Any way we are here, so the first thing we did was have another wonder round which ended up round China Town for a meal and then an early night as travelling takes it out of you!The next morning and with the sun shining we decided to find the boat we are on for NY and pick up our tickets. The day is gorgeous about 27 Degrees, however compared to Cairns we can walk around and not even feel hot and unlike the North it's not humid so it is really a perfect summer day. (god knows how we are going to cope back in the UK!) After a lovely walk we located the boat and then grabbed some lunch at Pontoon ,the cheapest restaurant round the Kings street Warf, the food was great and very good value for money and a view of the bridge. For the evening we booked some tickets for a comedy in the Opera House. The best of Australian comedians were doing a show called "That was the year that was". A famous concept that has been brought over from the UK, where comedians talk about the last year, politics, celebrity's etc. Pete and I love comedy and we really wanted to watch a performance at the Opera House, so this killed two birds with one stone. The opera house is beautiful inside and out and during the interval you could grab a drink and go outside, picture perfect, sipping a glass of bubbly while looking over the harbour! The comedy was great, aprox 12 comedians who were very funny however sometimes it was hard to get some of the jokes as they were based on Australian celebrities we didn't know. One of the funniest things however was that just like home Australians have the same problems and most of the jokes were about teen mums, late trains and obesity to name just a few , it just shows no matter where you live everyone has the same complaint! After leaving the opera house we stopped off at a pizzeria where again we sat with a perfect view of the harbour. Amazingly, the city was still very busy, surprising as NYE is the next day and if we were back home they would be staying in and saving their money, however here it has been busy every night with people going from bar to bar!So this morning we wake up and look out the window and see thousands of people queuing to get to best sight for this evenings fireworks. We are so glad we booked the boat as we can sit here, have a lay in and maybe even get some shopping in before having to get down to the harbour later today. (thank you Tracie for convincing me to do this!!)Well we hope that everyone has a great NYE, what ever you are doing and we will see you soon (only 2 days left!!)See you 2009Lou and Pete x
