Our First Day 23rd November 08Well we are finally here in Australia! The flight was fantastic, we had paid extra for Virgin's Premium Economy and I have to say it was well worth it! Nice purple leather seats with lumber support and so much more leg room and a much larger seat! That and the pre- flight drink of champagne we were given it was so nice to have a bit of comfort over the 22hrs of flying! I would so recommend to anyone!!! We arrived at aprox 8ish and some how seemed to bring the English weather with us, it was raining!!! When going through arrivals it was weird not having any rep to go to, no-one with a plaque with our name! So we went to find the train…… The ride from the airport to Kings Cross was so easy, very similar to the London underground and cost about $7 each. The hotel was just outside of the one of the stations so very easy to find. When getting there still needed to clean the room so we were recommended to go the a café called "Tiger Bakers". A lovely place to have real coffee served with an amazing bacon and egg roll!! We ended up staying for a couple of hours before dragging ourselves back to the hotel to have a snooze before heading into Sydney town. After a 2hr siesta we showered and embarked on our first adventure, the Sydney bridge climb! Our climb started with a general Q&A and then a breathalysing test. (as not to have any drunks up there). We were then briefed and kitted up with our suits, belts, gloves, hats etc all clipped onto to you so nothing would fall off. The climb for me was very daunting, being afraid of heights! however there were great and very supportive and helped you when needed. To be able to see the whole of Sydney was breathtaking and the people there were so friendly. The climb is very exhausting so by the time we finished we were both shattered. After getting the obligatory photo (if not on line it with be soon) we headed off down the quays looking for something to eat. After looking at some over priced restaurants we decided to eat at a place called the Opera Bar. Still slightly over priced however was very pleased when it arrived, best fish and chips ever and a fantastic view of the bridge all lit up at night. To top it off a stage had been erected next to the Opera House which was filming The Australian Pop Idol. So Pete and I sat and watched while drinking a schooner of larger and the next thing you know fireworks are going off! We couldn't believe our luck, it was amazing it must have been to confirm the new Pop Idol who ever it was, we assume a woman had one as there was someone ruining a cold play hit while the fireworks were going off so it may have been her! (I'll have to look it up!) So that was our first day, how great to have fireworks at the start of the holiday, brilliant!! We are now going to bed as it's been an exhausting first day…………….
