Day two, three and four!!! (24th November - 27th November)Sorry but we are having to up-date you on four days as we haven't been able to get Wi Fi!! We have now picked up the campervan and already built up 1124km! You can see from our plan where we have been. The van is great, Hippie Campers have been superb, the service to begin with, but more importantly the van itself. We ended up getting up-graded to the deluxe model, (they didn't think the one we had booked would be suitable for such a long journey) and it has been a very comfortable ride. (would recommend to anyone). So our first tour was to the Blue mountains, as you may be able to tell from the pictures it's very picturesque! We spent out first night at a place called Blackheath in the mountains and it was a very cosy evening (helped with the fact we brought our own pillows….well we need some comfort!).We woke early morning to get on our way to the Hunter Valley. We ended up going on route 69 which was a very scenic route. We didn't quite realise how long this road was and almost run out of petrol. However a little half way house place came to our survival just before we were running on fumes alone. (note to anyone driving in OZ, the petrol stations are very far between so make sure you at least have a half tank at all times) Hunter Valley again was very pretty, we ended up at Lindermans winery to have a few tasters of their current offerings. The people there were very informative and gave us lots of information on the wines they sell. We then drove to the Big 4 caravan park for another evening in the van, very early evenings due to the long days. From the Hunter Valley we travelled to Port Macquarie, via Nelson's Bay. The Lonely Planet guide told us that the best pie ever made in Australia was at a place called Red Ned's, so we decided it was worth the 40k drive to taste such delights! We weren't disappointed …..Beef Stroganoff in a pie …. Delish !!The best thing about the holiday is having the Lonely Planet, it's been great finding something interesting and then being able to just drive there! We also read that the longest sand dunes in the southern hemisphere were near by so we also went to have a look before our great pie! Then we get to today, which has probably been the best day yet! It truly seemed like we were in Australia as we saw our first kangaroos! We went to a place called The Billabong wildlife sanctuary, where you can get close and personal with them and feed them. (pictures hopefully online) It was a great day where we also saw the Koala bear, both here and in a hospital designed just for them. After a day feeding the animals we drove to Coff's Harbour where we sit tonight having a few beers adding bits to the website (our campsite has free wi fi!!!). Off to Byron Bay tomorrow….Thanks to those that have left messages it is lovely to see when we log on!Well try and keep you up-dated as much as possible Lou and Pete x
