Louise and Julia's Travels
Hola! You'll be glad to know we all survived against adversity in the Pantanal...The aligators jaws were wide and the Pirahna's teeth a tad on the sharp side but like true explorers we fought them off!!! Sarah's biggest prey were the mozzies who bit her about 100 times...picture proof to follow!! Back in Buenos Aires we took in a tango show in the dodgiest place ever...think 1940's brothel...but after 3 double vodkas we felt at home and Louise and I showed the others how it was done..dancing that is!!Went on to an Irish bar and mingled with the locals..some more than others (Sarah). Not one Irish person in sight. Went on a cycle tour of the city down to the docks, La Boca, saw Boca Juniors staduim..to Louise's delight. (Do you know Blackburn Rovers are doing exceptionally well at the mo..and long may it continue!!). Nearly got wiped out by a few buses and endangered a few pedestrians lives, however, it was a good way to see the city. Other than that, did a spot of shopping and then headed north to the Iguazu falls.
Stayed on the Argentinian side of the falls. What can we say?? The falls were absolutely breathtaking..definitely one of the most amazing sights ever. Plus it had just rained the day before so the flow of water was even greater than normal...Unfortunately swimming was cancelled!! Visited both sides of the falls to get an up-close and overall perspective. Also joined some 13 year old school kids on their school trip into the jungle to do a spot of abseiling, zip-wiring and a 10 minute trek..Not quite the adrenalin rush we'd hoped for, however, Sarah might disagree as her heart rate is still recovering. Also visited the largest hydroelectric dam in the world called Itaipu which is made from 15 times as much concrete as the Eurotunnell..all very impressive!
Then had a 14 hour bus journey up to Campo Grande followed by another 8 hours into the Pantanal. This is a wetland area with rainforest where you can see wildlife galore. Slept in hammocks..the idea is better than the reality..Sam found them quite comfy though..so much so that you'll be sleeping in one at home soon Dalt!! Up at 6 in the mornings for breakfast then out at 7 for our activities. Went trekking, swimming with aligators, fishing with and for pirahnas and horseriding. All in a cool temperature of 45 degrees...sweated out a few pounds as the huts lacked air-con, much to Sarah's dismay!! Didn't realise quite how many Aligators were in the water til we went on a nighttime safari and saw 200 pairs of red, hungry eyes staring at us from the water..aparently they weren't hungry...who can tell????
After all that excitemant we've headed to Bonito which is a funny little town. had a day of R & R today but sadly it's not been sunny enough to top up the tans by the pool...hence the long postcard! Gonna have a big night out tonight and then snorkelling down a river and quad biking tomorrow. Hope you enjoy the photos (soz, no captions yet..figure them out yourselves!!) We'll be in touch soon. Loads of love, Jules, Louise, Sam and Sarah xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
