Slept well last night, in the biggest bed known to man! Woke bright and breezy and checked out at 8am.
Took a walk down to Old Port Montreal, realising when I got there that it was 8.15am and my boat wasn't until 10. Typical me. So I went for a walk, and popped into a French cafe for breakfast. I snail pace walked back and headed over to the jet boat area.
You Tube 'jet boating Montreal'. When I first saw it I thought it was just a big speed boat. But no it wasn't. It was amazing. When I checked in for the ride, the guy who runs the place thought I was Australian... beach bum clothes - maybe, blonde hair - maybe, killer figure - that must have been it!!
I was given all the gear - jumper, jump suit thing, life jacket, booties and wind proof poncho thing. When boarding he asked if I wanted a 'wild or mild' seat... I went wild. Anyway we then set off on the 15 min ride to the Rapids. I've never known anything like it. A normal river and all of a sudden you have this incredible white water. Once we hit the Rapids the captain slammed the boat head first and sideways into the water. We were drenched - waves about 4/5ft higher than the boat were flooding us. I loved it!! Adrenaline was great. Was sad for it to end, even though I'd had a few good mouthfuls of water.
Then I power walked up to the Notre Dame Basilica Montreal - a gorgeous church(?). After looking around, I joined a bus full of other tourists on a city tour of Montreal, visiting the sites of Old Montreal, the Olympic village, Mont Park something something, etc. The guide was pretty unhelpful at the end and didn't seem to want to drop me back at my hotel... like he should. And I was panicking because we had a train to catch. So I left the bus as soon as we got back into the city, hailed a cab - he took me to get my case and got me to the train station in good time... I was never really going to be late (was I?).
Kerry got to the station to meet me, just as I'd realised our train was over an hour delayed (we are heading to Quebec City tonight - the most northerly part of our trip - and our last stop in Canada).
This meant we had to hang around for a bit - I engaged in a double fillet o fish from McDonalds and some freebies from ViaRail to apologise for the delay.
We're now on the train to Quebec City, and are due to arrive shortly after 11pm. I've spent the past hour looking up stuff to do in Quebec and Boston. Have just booked a 16 mile/3.5hr bike tour for 9am tomorrow (haha pathetic - am I going to make it). But in all honesty I'm looking forward to getting my sweat on.
