Today we walked down to a little coffee shop to have breakfast. We had pastries & coffee.
We then walked through La Ramblas. It is the tourist area of Barcelona with lots of souvenir stalls & street performers. We stopped in one of the food markets & it was amazing. The fruit & veg looked exquisite & the colours & smells of all the food was fab.
We were headed for the beach which was very far away it turned out. So when we got to the sea front we stopped for a beer & had the some tapas. I think it was the worst I have had & I usually have tapas in Fishponds! We carried on & got to the beach. We sat on the beach for an hour or so. It was fun but busy. Emily & I managed to get sun burnt. We were amazed at the amount of women (whom we thought were British) who were sun bathing topless on the very busy beach which was cm's away from the street!
We then saw the best reggae band ever performing on the pavement in front of the beach. We stayed to watch for ages as they were captivating. They all were dressed in Haiwian shirts & they were so much fun! The crowd were so cool as well as couples randomly started to salsa dance along to the music. We felt very pasty & rigid in comparison! Lol!
We walked back to our apartment & walked through the Gothic quarter to see the architecture. There were lovely narrow streets & cute little shops. There were really good break dancers performing in one of the squares. We stopped for a coffee on the way back & I was delighted that I remembered how to ask for the bill in Spanish - la Quinta por favour?
We got dressed up & went to a nice restaurant that evening. We ordered a bottle of cava as it famous in Barcelona & had a lovely meal. We then went to a few bars for more cava & had a brilliant time chatting & people watching.
Barcelona is an amazing place. There is so much to see & do. The atmosphere is very relaxed as well. I hope to come back with Dando one day.
