Hi we arrived in Vang Vieng on Christmas day. We had a small amount of trouble finding somewhere to stay, going to 3/4 guest houses & being turned away because they were full. I think most people arrived before Xmas day so they wouldn't have to travel that day like us!

But we found somewhere & it was cheap so it was all good! We went out to one of the many video bars in Vang Vieng that night. Most of them show friends on the tv's but we found one showing family guy. It's great they have big square cushioned areas for you to sit on & they bring you beer & your food while you sit there & watch tv! Great! We stayed for about 2 hours!

Vang Vieng has a reputation for being a real party town, so we wandered around trying to find some mad place to go for a drink. We ended up going to 'the island' Don Khang to the rock bar. It was mad. There was a limbo pole on fire in the middle next to the dance floor with Lao children breathing fire over it & then jumping over it while it was alight!

In Vang Vieng they serve buckets of alcohol. Literally in a bucket you would make a sandcastle with on the beach! So we had a few buckets between us of Lao Lao & coke & I think there is quite a lot of booze in there!

So we went to another bar then called joker bar. It was cool they had a fire dancer, played rage against the machine twice, dando danced ridiculously & they gave us both a free t shirt. Brilliant!

The next day it was time to go tubing! Basically you get given a big inflatable ring in which you float down the river & there a bars to stop at on the way. They throw you a rope & drag you across to the bar!

We pretty much stopped at all the bars! The scenery is beautiful. The mountains are right next to the river. Again they serve buckets of alcohol & you can if you want take away your bucket in your tube. But we didn't see the rush & preferred to sit in the sun.

So after a heavy few days that night we found a bar showing friends ( my choice this time) & had dinner in front of the telly again.

What a mad place! Off to Vientiane today. Then Cambodia tomorrow!
