Hi!
We left Ooty and travelled to Mysore.....it didn't take too long to get there.
Once in Mysore we dropped our bags off then went straight to the Palace. It was the second time I had visited the palace, and it was just as pretty as the first time (it isn't very old, but it is still amazing that it is in such good shape!). Upon walking around the Palace I spotted some elephants which must belong to the estate - I was taking some photos and a police officer told me to follow him and get a photo closer up......I should have known better. After taking some pics it wasn't long before he asked for money, grrr!
After the Palace we went up the hill to visit a temple in honour of Shiva (can't remember the name of it!). I had seen the temple before as well, but on the way down the hill we stopped off at a statue of a bull (the vehicle of Shiva) - it was really cool. Also I had been chatting to an Indian family earlier in the day and they were also visiting the statue, so we had another chat and they gave me some sweets!
The next morning we visited another temple way out of town. It was a very old temple with loads of carvings (will put pics up when I get home). The carvings literally covered every topic from jungle scenes, religious figures, and the karma sutra!
That afternoon Christine, Lorna and I went to a fruit/veg/household goods market. It was nice to be able to walk around freely without getting too much hassle! We also had a v tasty lunch near the market (one of the best meals I have had in India and it only cost Rs 40 i.e. approx 60p).
After the market we took a rickshaw to the government silk factory, where we were free to walk around all the machinery and see how silk is spun and woven. It was interesting. Most amazing was that I resisted buying any more silk items!! He he!!
It was a really nice day, that ended by us boarding an overnight train to Chenni.
