After a 14 hour bus ride surrounded by desert...desert...and more desert we reach Dhab where on the menu they have for us: relaxation, relaxation and more relaxation, a girl could get used to this!
When entering our room it feels like we have been transported to a tuscan villa that has been carved into a mountain with sea ans sunflower views ungulfing the french doors that open onto our patio. A trip to the pool before heading out to dinner where we eat on many colourful cushions around a low table that is serving great food and offers sea views and a breeze to blow away the heat of the day....it is offical I love Dahab!
After our first sleep in we head our late morning in our off road jeeps to do some snorkling in the Red Sea....our spot of choice - The Blue Hole. The only way to explore the view below sea's surface is play a scene in Nemo when there about 200 fish species in the shot and pause....you then have the Blue Hole, Nemo included. The fish were very friendly swimming right up just in front of your mask before turning on their tails and leaving you in a whirl of bubbles. We then venture from the hole a bit and walk up the sea edge for awhile and launch ourselves into a small ravine (the water is freezing!!!!!!!) and take in the beauty of the reef in a less populated area. We trade in our flippers for some dinner, drinks and dance enjoy a warm night out in Dahab!
The next day is spent between the pool and snorkling at the reef behind our hotel (this reef even better than the Blue Hole) early dinner and bed time as we are rising very early for our hike up Mt. Sinai.
1:30am The day has started...sleepy we head to the bus. We reach the bottom of the mountain and are advised to use the toilet as there is not one up there...3 hours climb...2 hours to sun rise...3 hours back down! hhhhmmm! I now realise why they do not take you on the climb durig the day. There are to reasons for this, firstly it would be way too hot...but more importantly if they showed you how high you had to climb before you started to climb chances are there would be about half the people never starting. I'm not oging to re-live the pain of walking up but needless to say Imade the top...watched the sun-rise and will never forget or regret the experience! I made it down just after breakfast and visited St. Catherines Monastery to see the burning bush & well.
The last several hours in Dahab are spent much the same way as we have been spening them before....nap...eat...swim (not in that particular order).
