On The Road with Lou!
Welcome to my trip blog, I will be writing and uploading video and photos of my trip daily, connectivity permitting. Although my end goal is Key West, for those of you unfamiliar with travel by motorcycle, it's all about the journey, not the destination!
I will be emailing my distro list daily with a short recap, but linking to this travel blog site for those of you interested in a more detailed account. I don't want to get any TL:DNR's!
Departed at 1145 and drove 352 straight kilometers without stopping! It was trial by fire for my brand new long hair sheep skin seat cover, and it worked out great. Listened to my whole Linkin Park discography once through, and was starting again.
Riding with my new Bose noise cancelling headphones is amazing, my bike and the wind noise are completely silent, and the music is great! Paying $300 bucks for a set of ear buds is extreme, but they are great headphones!
Add my fancy Arlen Ness after market mirrors that I can't see **** in, to riding in complete silence, and you need to have your head on a swivel big time! More that once I casually glanced over to find a semi had crept up beside me, quite startling! Eventually I discovered a setting that adds about 25% ambient back into the mix so I have a little more sensory input.
I don't have anything exciting to share with you today other than a small navigational error on my behalf added about 100 kms to my ride today. I missed my turn around Lethbridge that would have put me through the Cardston border crossing. Instead I went through the Carway crossing. I frequently make this error as I mix up the 2 crossings.
The benefit of this was driving through the St. Mary/East Glacier area which featured about 60 miles of superior twisties, a welcome relief from the mind numbingly straight highways of the Alberta prairies.
For those of you that don't know me well this trip this summer represents my 26th consecutive year that I have had a bike trip (2007 it was cut short due to an accident). On my previous bike I had racked up about 175 000 kms in 18 years of riding. I have about 90 000 kms in 7 years, the majority of that mileage on long distance touring, most of it solo.
I have been within 250 kms of the Arctic Ocean (flat tire stopped me), as far East and as far West as you can drive in continental North America, and Key West will be the furthest South. I will also be spending considerable time at Kennedy Space Centre as well as incorporating 2 CSAPS Plastic Surgery shoots into the trip. One in Atlanta that I am driving to, and one in Philadelphia that I am flying to from Daytona Beach.
I hope you enjoy my chronicle and talk soon!
