On The Road with Lou!
Was up at 0600hrs, showered, dressed and in the lobby by 0620 waiting for a cab. The cab driver from the previous evening had estimated going to the same address at this time of day would take 35 minutes, in reality it took 7. A full 28 minutes of rack time squandered!
At the surgical suite we did some last minute testing and tweaking, replaced an audio cable that somehow went bad overnight and shot the marking video. Then the main procedure took us to about 1230.
I had a good idea the night before; to bring my 2 HeroCam 64GB SD cards to have the camera crew shoot directly to them. This eliminated the need to transfer the files from the cameras to my portable hard drives. The 3ish hour shoot at 720p resulted in a files totaling about 77 GB so it saved me considerable time.
I had arranged a late checkout with the Hyatt so I split right after the surgery was done and I had a chance to thank the crew for their excellent work.
Getting back to my room I quickly transferred the files from the SD cards to my laptop, via internal card reader, then made an additional copy on a USB 3.0 HDD. Once the files existed in 3 different places I packed up and departed.
I-75 south bound out of Atlanta at 1500h in the afternoon was a real rush! 6 lanes each way, grid locked bumper to bumper! I, however, was cruisin' serenely in my noise cancelled, lightly traffic'ed car pool lane known as the HOV, high occupancy vehicle. You only need 2 people (including driver) to be allowed in this lane (Motorcycles are OK too) and there was seriously a 500 to 1 ratio of cars using the main lanes vs the car pool lane.
By staying in the HOV there was no drama, and I was out of Atlanta in 45 minutes. Key West is about 1500 km south of Atlanta so the original plan was to do it in 2 days, however leaving a little early allowed me to put in about 330 kms and reduce my daily mileage requirements. Tomorrow I will put in a full day and try to get south of Tampa, leaving an easy day for arrival into Key West on Saturday.
