YO!!
Its me again and this time I have finally made it to Peru and right now I am nicely settled in Lima just by the beach in Miraflores where here's all year round surfing and paragliding and?I have to say its lovely!!
Having heard all the horror stories of robberies and muggings when leaving the airport, I was pretty nervous about getting to my hostel but I have to say that I haven't had any problems at all, infact my taxi driver was lovely (even though he did get me here at warp speed!)
Lima is cerainly a lot poorer than Chile and Santiago but after spending the day on a city tour visiting the Pachacamac excavation site -home to some of the relics of the oldest civilisations in the world (before the Incas came the Lima's and the Ishmire's). I've even bought a real life totem pole! (mini size of course!). Also visited the Catacoombs in the main monastery in the central plaza in down town Lima, it was odd seeing so many human bones . Seeing a local wedding at 7.30 at night, walking through the local markets and haggling for local jumpers and hats for when I get to high altitude, watching randoms get up on 'stage' to do kareoke for the crowds whilst watching the sunset over Lima, I've decided this city really has an exciting feel about it!
The people here look very different to the rest of the people I have seen so far in South America and as strange as this may sound the do actually look like modern day indians, with hooked noses and heavy forheads.
I've met loads of great people so far from all over the world and looking forward to starting my tour in a couple of days, catch ya soon.........x
