Hi everyone, to those of you who didn't want me to skydive...sorry! I did it this morning, and higher then I orginally planned at 15000 ft. (its bloody high take it from me!)
I've copied an email I sent around about it below, hopefully will be able to post some pics soon.
This afternoon we arrived in Rotorua (the place that smells like rotten eggs due to sulphur) and went to a Maori cultural centre. It was fab, we saw geysers erupting and boiling mud pools and thermal springs. But the best part was the Maori concert. They performed a traditional greeting ceremony, sang songs and showed us some games, and best of all performed the Haka (the war dance made famous by the All Blacks). It was seriously good, and quite scary. Especially the weird tongue out eyes wide open part!
Just settling down now for a quiet night in with our new fave tv show, Karaoke High...we're addicted and get the remote at about 5pm to make sure no one else gets it before 7...hjow pathetic are we!
Amusingly we called the AA out today because about 3 cars have flashed us recently and we thought there might be something wrong...he couldn't find anything and suggested it was just kiwi males getting over excited at 3 girls in a car!!! Anyway better go and calm down, love to you all and can't wait for you to see the dvd! xxxx
Sky dive- Ok, in the same theme as Anna's email a few days ago...a few short hours ago (and I'm still shaking!) I threw myself out of a plane, strapped to a crazy kiwi, at 15,000 ft (the highest height possible!) above Lake Taupo in New Zealand, and thankfully lived to tell the tale (also with no injuries!) apart from slight frost bite.
I have just picked up charlies email about a British sky diver whose parachute didn't open, probably glad that I didn't get that this morning!
It was amazing!!!!! I doubt I will ever do anything that incredible again (although I am considering diving again before I leave NZ...its addictive).
Woke up early this mornhing, after a cancellation yesterday due to bad weather, and saw nothing but blue sky...I coudln't tell if I was excited or slightly wishign for cloud, but anyway. Got picked up in a limo (a scary experience) and went out to the airport. Got harnessed up and then flew up to 12 000 with 6 other people...they jumped out there and Crazy Kiwi Mike and I strapped ourselves together. I had a very fetching helmet type hat, those of you who are lucky enough to see my dvd will find it amusing I'm sure.
Anyway we carried on just the two of us in this (fairly rickety) tiny pink plane up to 15000. When breathing became difficult was when i started to think, maybe I haven't made a very good decision here, but no time for doubts as Mike started scooching us towards the door. Then the door opened and I sat on the edge, basically praying! The dvd is hilarious, I look like I have resigned myself to my fate!
Mike then threw himself, and therefore me, out of the tiny pink plane, and I actually remember very little about the next minute, except that freefalling is f***ING SCARY!!!! apologies for the language, there is no other way to describe it. I was honestly sooooo cold and we were going so fast (around 200km/hr) that I didn't breathe for the full minute. It was incredible, complete sensory overload.
Fell through the clouds then just as I started to regain some awareness he opened our parachute, then it was just pure fun. Although I guess we were still going quite fast, I was actually able to smile (previously my face had been flattened) and wave at the camera. We even had a little chat about the previous days load of snow...hence the freezingness.
The ground came up quite quickly after that. bri and Sarah were seriously nervous that I hadn't appeared with the rest of the jumpers. I came down about 5 minutes after them. they said they thought I was either dead or had chickened out.
I have never done anything so incredible in my entire life, I wish I could do it again (But I did think I was going to die). The dvd is fab, the whole 7 minutes of my sky dive.
I had to share this with you, I am so proud of myself!
