Hello peeps,
I have literally just finished white water rafting! I'm still shaking, it was awesome!
Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself so I'll go back to Te Anau. On our first proper day we went out to Milford Sound. It was beautiful, the drive there was a bit of a struggle though, and when it snowed I did panick slightly! Had to drive nearly a km in the dark through a mountain (literally) which was also slightly unnerving! Saw loads of waterfalls, about a km of bright pink heather, snow, mountains... Then we went and had a hot chocolate before heading out on the fiord. (A fiord is where a glacier has retreated into the sea and left an inlet type thing. They named it a sound, but it's not as that is where the sea has retreated...or something along those lines!)
Saw lots of waterfalls, and landslides, and also seals...good stuff.
We attempted that night to go out for a 'night out'....this ended up being a pizza and 2 bottles of wine in the local pub, met some quite weird people, and was home in bed at 11pm!!!!
Next day we drove to Queenstown, not too windy this time. It's so gorgeous here, very touristy but just a beautiful alpine town. Had breakfast this morning looking over a massive lake, sun shining, and snow capped mountains in the background...what more could you want?! We had a wander round then went to watch James Bond....go see it, its fab. Daniel Craig is hot. My nana is reading so that's all I'll say on that subject, but take it from me, hot hot hot!
Today we rafted the Shotover river, which included rapids up to grade 5 (6 is the highest you can go) we also had the leader, so naturally he was mental. I wasn't scared until in the middle of one rapid he shouted ' oh holy s***' and dived towards the front of the boat!!!!! It was awesome anyway, got some great photos, they've put them on the internet, so if you go to queenstown rafting in a couple of days and search todays date you should see pics of me alternately smiling and screaming :-)
Starting saying 'eh' in my sleep and laughing hysterically. It's very worrying. More on that madness later.... love to you all xxxxx
