Once again it was another early start, we were up at 6.15am and once ready we got a taxi over to Jayne's lovely apartment (complete with a much needed, and over the next day or two, a much used washing machine and dryer!). She smuggled us in (we were staying with her for a couple of nights) and kindly supplied us with fruit, cereal bars and coffee for breakfast before we hijacked her tour for the day!
For free we were able to spend the day together and our first port of call was the lovely Palm Cove, where we spent half an hour walking on the jetty and paddling in the warm sea (before being warned about the jellyfish!). Next stop, after a scenic drive along the coastal, rainforest road, was the town of Port Douglas. We enjoyed a browse around the market and walk down the high street before a compulsory ice cream stop, where we all enjoyed a sundae! We then took a slow stroll back to the bus and were relieved to get back on and enjoy the air conditioning!
After a quick photo stop at a view point overlooking 4 mile beach, we headed to Hartley's Crocodile farm where we took a boat trip on the lagoon and saw massive crocodiles, and even an eagle, being fed. We also enjoyed a nature walk and talk by the informative keepers, Sarah was even brave enough to hold a snake! After getting close to Kangaroos, including a joey and Koalas we had a drink then headed back on the bus and returned to Cairns, exhausted!
Instead of having a nap we chilled out in front of the telly with a biscuit before getting ready and heading out for tea at Barnacle Bills! We enjoyed some gorgeous seafood, Laura Have a 'Taste of Australia' which was Kangaroo, Crocodile and Baracuda, Sarah had a 'Fishermans Basket' of Calamari, Prawns and Fish with Chips and Jayne enjoyed a Seafood Curry. All washed down with a bottle of wine (Laura's Mum is a bad influence!). We returned back to the apartment stuffed and tired and all flopped into bed.
