After being woken up at 5am by all the other people in our dorm who were off on their safari we had a rare lie-in - which meant getting up at just after 7.00am! We enjoyed our breakie then took our time re-packing and getting ready before our 10.00am check out time. After we had stored our bags we headed into the town, calling for a photo stop and looking in the souvenir shops. Our first main port of call was Anzac Hill. We made the trek, in the 40 degree heat, up Lions Walk to the top and enjoyed the views over the town, the Macdonnell mountain range and the outback. Baking in the heat we ventured down and into an air conditioned shopping centre for a cool down before moving onto the visitor centre for the Royal Flying Doctors Service. We spent some time in the museum and shop then headed out for a much needed ice cream!
We arrived back at the hostel around 1.30pm and chilled out/sweated in the sun before our 3.30pm airport pick up. We were quickly checked in and through security and before we knew it we were on the plane. It was a nice 2 hour flight and we enjoyed pasta bolognaise and a dairy milk on-board before landing at 7.00pm in Cairns. Our bags were off quickly and we got a free transfer to our hostel, where we dumped our bags and headed out for our free meal at the Woolshed in the centre of town. We enjoyed Chilli (Laura) and Veg Pasta (Sarah) washed down with a pint of cider before walking back to the hostel and straight to bed!
