Yesterday morning we awoke, after a nice semi-lie-in, around 8.00am and enjoyed a leisurely morning at Robert and Sue's with a lovely breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, muesli and croissants. We had to say our goodbyes at 10.30am when Robert kindly dropped us off at the bus stop ready for our 11.00am departure to Brisbane. The journey only took a couple of hours, including a stop to stock up in fruit and salad.
Once in Brisbane, we checked into our hostel and dumped our bags in the massive (28 bed) dorm, then we hit the town! We walked into the city browsing at the travel agents and shops along the way. We booked a trip to Australia Zoo, put photos onto CD and did a bit of souvenir shopping before heading back to the hostel. We enjoyed a salad and honey soy chicken kebabs (made by us!) for tea then sat in the TV room watching Liar Liar and the news about Heath Leger (tragic) before retiring to bed.
This morning we were up around 7.15am, got ready and enjoyed a fruit salad breakfast before our 8.55am pick up for the Zoo. The journey took just over an hour and our very chirpy tour guide told us all about the Zoo and the Irwin family en-route as well as showing us a crocodile hunter dvd. On arriving at the zoo we headed straight to the elephant feeding, which was lovely before taking a seat in the 'crocoseum' ready for the wildlife 101 show. We were given a display of snakes and beautiful birds, including parrots and macaws before the big croc came out. Following the show we got an ice cream then headed towards 'south east asia' calling at the venomous snake house and through the rainforest aviary on the way. In 'asia' we saw the elephants again, who had learnt a new trick of lifting logs, then we headed into the tiger temple to view three 9 month old cubs. So cute! After the tiger temple we walked through the Koalas and Kangaroos before taking the opportunity to have a photo taken cuddling a koala! What a fab experience. The Female Koala was so docile and quite heavy but very soft and cuddly - we wanted to take her home! By this time we were hungry so we shared a ham and salad wrap and some wedges before collecting our beautiful photos. In the last hour we visited the hedgehog like echidnas, the kids zoo - where we saw some 2 week old piglets (ahh!) - and then more Koalas, otters, dingoes and cassowaries. We got back on the bus to head back to Brisbane at 4.15pm, falling asleep and watching more crocodile hunter on the way.
Once back at the hostel we chilled out in the tv room again before making the most of the burgers on the bbq!
