Yesterday morning we were up bright and early awaiting our bread for our free breakfast to arrive into the kitchen! We got ready and headed out for our last minute sightseeing of Sydney. For 'old times sake' we walked the long way round along George Street, calling in the occasional souvenir shop for a gander.
Our first port of call was the Sydney Skytower, where we enjoyed some beautiful and final views over the city before heading back down to ride on the 'OzTrek' a brief movie tour of Australia (been there, done that!). After we returned to ground level we headed through Hyde Park and into the Botanical Gardens for more of an explore and a wander in the sun. We made it all the way to Mrs Macquaries Chair for the obligatory photos, before enjoying the harbour views on the slow stroll towards the opera house.
After a walk round circular quay - making a sneaky purchase of a couple of large photo frames for the price of small ones (they were in the wrong boxes!), we headed over to 'The Rocks' for a coffee and cake. The area was eerily quiet compared to our previous visits around xmas and new year but we enjoyed scones and chocolate hazelnut cake washed down with a couple of lattes in a lovely courtyard.
After this we made our way back down George Street and into Railway Square before heading back to the hostel for a pasta tea and some free cheese and wine (whilst playing a drinking game of 'guess the theme tune' - Sarah was amazing!). We sorted our cases and flopped into bed.
This morning we awoke early and caught the 8.00am airport shuttle, although it took over half an hour just to make the pick ups. We arrived at the airport with plenty of time and checked in before enjoying a cheese and tomato toastie and a ham and cheese croissant for breakie. We wandered through the shops and managed to spend our last cents on a bit of chocolate! Our flight departed on time at 11.40am and was comfortable, although there were no seat back tv's! We enjoyed Fish with Lemon, dill and spinach (Laura) and Chicken and rice in a wine sauce (Sarah) and were pleasantly surprise when the crew came round with solero style ice creams!
After 3 hours we landed in Auckland and tried to get used to the 13 hour time difference. We took the Airbus through the city to Fat Camels, our hostel for the next couple of nights. We were so tired that we headed straight down for the free bbq tea - well sausage and bread with a bit of salad, then after a quick walk round the block we unsuccessfully tried to watch some tv (we couldn't get the tv to work) and went to bed - shattered!
