Yesterday we woke and had a lazy morning. We wandered down to breakfast in our pj´s and enjoyed coffee, juice, bread, watermelon, banana and dulche de leche. We eventually left the hostel around 1,00pm and stopped off straight away at a buffett restaurant for a lunch time fuel up! We certainly took full advantage of the self-service, stacking our plates high with all sorts including salad, meat and beans and dessert of ice-cream, fruit salad with cream and some little purply jelly bead-things!?
After lunch we decided to investigate the local market with Janice, unfortunately we were rather disappointed. It sold strange odds and ends including electrical equipment, perfume, toys and chavy clothes. We wondered back to the hostel to via the bus station and had a quick look through a couple of shops in there. Before we knew it it was time to catch our 22 hour bus to Rio De Janerio, we quickly grabbed our bags and rushed across the road to the station, stored our bags, boarded and left Campo Grande at 3.30pm with Vish, Janice and Adam.
The mamouth bus journey was not as bad as expected and we managed to sleep pretty well. We stopped a couple of times in the evening and this morning, one stop/ drop-off at Sau Paulo (passing our hotel that we are due to stay at next week for our final night!) and a roadside restaurant/ convenience store en-route to Rio just before midday to grab a bite to eat. It was a buffet that charges by the 100 gram, we had sausages, salad, chicken and beans.
We arrived in Rio 2 hours late at 3.30pm and the five of us squashed into a taxi that dropped us right outside of our hostel, Mello Yellow. We had a brief tour of the hostel and its facilities by the (how should we describe him?...) 'quirky' Hugh and settled in really quickly. We decided to kick-start our 'holiday' part of our travels with a few happy hour cocktails, followed by a couple more with compliments of the management! Sweet! Needless to say we were rather tipsy by 8.30pm and attempted to sober up with a lasagne, which we both hovered, without coming up for so much as a breath before we finished it! With the lasagne not really fully achieved it's sobbering effect, we stumbled downstairs to book a few tours/ trips (Laura on the floor, Sarah attempting to talk sence to the reception guy!), before passing out in our 24 bed dorm! ...Somehow we managed to actually get into our pj's (!?) definately an achievement in our state!
