We arrive in a very humid Cairns and got to the hostel fine only to find we were locked out!! After a bang on the gate and a phone all we got in to our room.
Our first day was spent wondering around trying to decide which tour company to go to the Great Barrier Reef with as there are about 4million!!! After about 2 hours we found a nice travel agent who sorted it all out and we were good to go.
We went on the steam train to Karunda (a little village) which took about 2 hours and went over he Baron River. We had a little walk around and went to the koala sanctuary then the bird sanctuary where a bird took a fancy to Dans T-shirt and chewed a hole in it!!!! Not even a scabby T-shirt but a nice one (hasn't stopped him wearing it mind). We got the cable car over the rain forest back down which was pretty although there was some damage from the cyclone.
The next day we were up early and off to the reef our boat was quite big and modern which was good but it was a bit choppy and a few people saw their breakfast again, Dan almost saw his but luckily we reached the snorkel site first. It was amazing there were so many fish and coral to look at, the weather was ok as well which helped. We even saw a white tipped reef shark!!! And it didn't eat us. We snorkelled at 3 different places and got our picture taken with Nigel a Maori wrasse fish who was massive but unfortunately didn't get to see a turtle although some of the others did so I was not happy.
In the evening we wondered into Cairns as there are hundreds of fruit bats that fly over at night and a tree of lorikeets that were so noisy.
On our last day we booked a trip to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest, we got picked up at 6.45 plus we had to check out before this. The trip was ok but nothing special we stopped at a wildlife park and got to hand feed some kangaroos which was amazing. Then we got a ferry to the Daintree forest visited the beach which was nice but a bit damaged from the cyclone then went on a river cruise. On the cruise we saw 4 wild crocodiles and a baby one just sat in the sun warming up.
They were so big it would be scary to see them on land.
The it was back to Cairns to wait for our bus which was due at 12.25am we were knackered by the time it arrived and couldn't wait To go to sleep.
