Hi sorry it's been a while we have been busy bees.
After a rather terrifying flight to Kuala Lumpur, we actually thought we might die!!!! It was so bumpy and rocky even the cabin crew weren't allowed out of their seats!! We then had a stressful transfer to our flight to Australia with some jobs worth quizzing us about why we're going to Australia (none of his business I thought) we just about made it to the plane. Luckily the rest of the journey went smoothly.
We arrived in a rather damp Sydney found our hostel (eventually) then did nothing pretty much. We were recovering from China, doing washing and stocking the fridge all very glamorous things. Oh yes and Dan had his first hair cut (very much overdue he looked like a crazy hairy gorilla). Also had our first 'normal' meal, beans on toasts, I was very excited about this!!!!
On our first proper day we had a look around the harbour, did a tour of the Opera House, which was really interesting. We even saw the orchestra practicing and the ballerinas training, the guide informed us it was unusual to get to see both on a tour. It is an impressive building. We then wandered the streets of Sydney taking it all in, walking back through the botanical gardens, where we saw massive spiders in the trees and these weird birds. In the evening we had a BBQ at the hostel and Dan got his first taste of Kangaroo! I think he was a bit disappointed but still went for seconds!!!
The next day we caught the ferry to Manly, a beach town on the other side of the harbour. It was nice to walk around but so hot, we had fish and chips by the sea fighting off seagulls. Just like being at home! After we got back to the main part of Sydney we walked to Mrs Macquaries point, which is where you can get a good picture of both the Opera House and the bridge in one picture. They also have an outside opera on at the moment so I of course practice my opera on the way back. I think I could be in with a shout!!
We left Sydney early the next day to fly to Alice Springs for the next part of our trip.
