Well I've done loads in the past few weeks. Currently in the capital of Cambodia, phnom penh, in a funky hostel called top banana.
We took the overnightbus from sihanoukville to Battambang which took about 11 hours! The journey was ok really, first half was a sleeper bus so slept on that then the other half was an ok journey too really, nothing to comain about! Battambang was a small town which was supposed to be French but we couldn't find anything French about the place, except a hotel called Paris Hotel! We did quite a lot in Battambang
. We all hired a tuk tuk for the day which took us to a big temple, another temple which we had to walk up loads if steps in the heat, went to the killing caves which was good then went to see millions of bats which all come out of this cave at about 5pm every night!
Dave left us then to go to Australia and us girls got the boat to Siem Reap which took about 4/5 hours and was quite interesting. The best thing was seeing all the floating villages. People live on the river and don't ever leave. They live in little shanty wooden huts which are so basic it's untrue! Was so cute though as when we went slow in an area all the little children shouted "hello" at us as we were all westerners! Sooooo cute as can't imagine many children doing that back home!
We had to stay in Siem Reap for a week as the flooding wad so bad! The first day was lovely, so hot we sat by the hotel pool all day! After that the heavens opened that much the river burst it's banks and lots if the towns roads turned into rivers. It's was horrible as it seemed we were staying in an area which was worst affected, typically! We literally had to wade through the water which came to my waist at some points! As you couldn't see where you were going, and the fast currents, it made the journey horrible each time. You couldn't see the pot holes or the curb so we had to walk in the middle of the road.
Angkor Wat was brilliant, didn't take as many pictures as I should have, but the heavens opened making it difficult to see anything. Angkor war was very busy but u expected that anyway. The other temples were equally ad impressive, but not as grand as Angkor Wat.
Anyway, disaster is over now as we left the area to get to the capital. 6 hour journey was ok really.
Looking forward to volunteering at the orphanage tomorrow!
