Left Budapest bright and early on sunday morning(15th). I'm having difficulty remembering where I was and when and for how long! Oh it's a hard life being on holiday! Sunday consisted mainly of driving from Budapest to Romania with a short stop for lunch. Found a bush camp site near a farm in the middle of the mountains....findin a flat spot for the tent proved difficult! I was on cooking duty with Des, Rachel and Polly....bangers and mash...yum! Went down a treat. The local farmer invited us to his house for cheese and Pelinka(local pear scnapps)...all 34 of us! Such hospitable people! We sat by the fire in his yard drinking Pelinka(2 shots was enough!) eating cheese, drinking milk straight from his coo and eating bread with pigfat(sounds gross but it was fantastic)! His mother brought us fresh milk for brekkie the next morning....she was about 90 and carried 10 litres of milk half a km!
Had to get up for breakfast duty at 6am....with tent packed and all! It was freezing...I was a bit like the michelin man....6 layers on! Monday was also mainly driving! Had the pleasure of bus cleaning....which involves emptying the chemical loo...and someone was kind enough to have done a number 2! Thought I'd be able to avoid the s**t(scuse the pun) when I quite work! Ho hum. The drive through Romania has been fantastic...beautiful countryside and the mountains are fantastic! Lots of development happening here since they joined the EU at the beginning of the year! Place to buy cheap property I reckon! We found another field to bush camp in....which we shared with some sheep! This was our first chance to have a proper camp fire! What a great night....food, vodka, whisky, guitar and lots of very bad singing....mainly by me! Made it to bed at 01.30am!
Early rise as we headed for Brasov! What a fantastic little town! It's a medevial town with a fabulous little town square in the middle of the Carpathian mountains. Went to take the cable car up Vf tampa.....but alas it was broken so decieded to walk....definately worthwhile! We were greeted with views over the snow-capped mountains and Brasov! Good to get some exercise too! Spent most of the day there than headed to Bran and Dracula's castle! Though he apparently has never been there! Mmm....work that one out! It was lovely...but a bit like walking round a hillside villa surrounded by all sorts of tourist stalls selling dracula mugs to pirate swords....reminded me of blackpool! Had a fantastic drive up through yet more mountains to Bucharest....our first late night drive....so the wine was flowing on the bus...made the journey a little faster! Had some chilli when we finallly arrived at 22.30pm. Had intended having an early night after my well-earned shower...but it all went wrong...had a few drinks with our driver Ian and a few others and got to bed at 05.30am! Oops!
Sitting in a trendy little bar in Bucharest...bar good Bucharest not so! Can't say I'll be disappointed when we leave tomorrow having not really seen much of the city! Next stop Bulgaria and the Istanbul on saturday! Bring on the sunshine
