Well this should have been started in London...but better late than never!
Left London bright and early on sat 7th april...still very unsure of what lay ahead. 31 other folk just as nervous as me! Fortunately that didn't last long. The greek sex cards came out and s***head was the icebreaker(ultimate travellers card game). First night was spent in Belgium campsite which is stuck in an 80's timewarp! Beer was flowing....just as well as it was about -25 degrees! Sunday Consisted mainly of sitting on truck....it's very bumpy at the back too! Bush camped in the woods in Germany (somewhere)and was introduced to the shovel! Goes with the toilet paper! Jaegarmeister was my savior that night...still had frost on my tent when I unpacked it!
Arrived in Prague on Monday...welcomed by the sun and managed to strip off 2 layers(only 4 to go). Had an interesting border crossing due to wrong signs...high truck...destroyed sign..traffic police...interviews...police escorts...all very dramatic and very amusing...all good...not our fault! 3 Hours later we crossed the border into Czech republic! Set up camp(already routine) and headed to town for food. Don't remember much after the red wine and foul shots! So after beer and...wait for it...Jack Daniels(out the bottle...classy) I was a little worse for wear. At least I got the embarassing stuff out the way early! So Prague was mainly great....but hard with a stinking hangover! Did the tourist stuff on Tues and had an early night.
Left for Vienna on Wed and arrived in sunshine once more. Visited the church of bones in Kutra Hora on the way. Very odd...now a museum. Bit weird but interesting I suppose! Had dinner then headed to bed...cold brewing! Awoke on Thurs feeling like my head was about to explode. Had to drink an extra 3 litres of water to keep up with fluid loss form my nose! Hired bikes at campsite and cycled 13kms into town..nearly killed myself on the way. Wheel...tram track...need I say more? Cool stunt though! Nice bruise on knee! Caused endless hours of amusement as Ave recounted the tale! So coffee...strudel...walk...museums...Palace...cycle....weiner schnitzel and that was Vienna. Cycle paths rock. One day not long enough!
Drove to Budapest on fri...arriving nice and early....I went to bed and slept for 3 hours. Great! However feeling the benefit of that today! Fluid loss via nose...minimal....do sound a bit squeaky though! Went to thermal baths this morning(sat) and that has sorted me out! Walked and walked and walked then ate goulash and walked more. Hungarians not the most attractive race I noted! Like I can talk! Went for a jaunt up the hill at the campsite and was blessed with the best views of Budapest I could possibly imagine!
It's been a rushed trip so far but great. The barriers are falling(mine fell on day2) and people are relaxing. I'm on cook duty tomorrow...sausage and Mash...yum. Off to the pub now...and it's nearly midnight...love this travelling malarcky!
