We caught a ferry to Kangaroo Island this morning. We complain about BC Ferries fares; the Sealink 45 minute trip here is $184 for a car with two passengers -- one way. Kangaroo Island is a heavily promoted tourist destination in South Australia. Frankly, with the exceotion of Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks, the tourist attraction is mostly hype. Yes there are a few wineries, some seals and some farm products, but the scenery is not that great. Nothing that isn't surpassed in many other parts of Australia. The Admirals Arch is attractive (if you can survive the gale force winds that you are exposed to at Cape du Couedic). Remarkable Rocks (the actual name) live up to the title. They sit on top of a huge exposed granite outcropping and have been exposed to wind erosion over millions of years. The result is that weaker parts of the rocks have eroded to form these remarkable features, some of which appear to be balanced on small legs (see the photos). We overnight on Kangaroo Island and return to the mainland tomorrow.
