Today was spent mostly in the Blue Mountains. We entered the Blue Mountain National Park from Richmond. Interesting drive up the range, through valleys and orchards (mountain apples). About half way through the park we entered the area impacted by fires in October. The evidence is certainly visible. We had expected more complete charred landscapes, but in the areas we passed through, the underbrush and trunks were blackened, but vegetation higher in the trees survived, although some is brown. We arrived in Katoomba, the centre of activity and tourism in the Blue Mountains in early afternoon and were able to get some great views of the Jamieson Valley from lookouts in the town, particularly the Three Sisters. The weather was not very good today -- cool, windy, generally cloudy with some rain squalls. Tomorrow we will continue touring in and around Katoomba in the morning and then travel to the coast south of Sydney.
