We started the day with a visit to Scenic World, a complex near Katoomba featuring a Gondola over the Jamieson Valley, a Rail Car down into the Valley (steepest rail in the world) and a Cable car between the Valley bottom and the base operation on the top of the cliff. One $35 ticket covers travel on all rides for the day. We did them all and hiked a bit in the Valley. We should have done more hiking since the Valley is quite interesting but we wanted to get past Sydney by early afternoon. Heading to the coast, we drove through Royal National Park, the second oldest national park in the world after Yellowstone. It is mainly a conservation park so the drive was nothing special. Past the park we began the coastal drive from Shell Harbour to Kiama. This is a very scenic drive with great views. We stopped at a spot where the hang gliders were launching themselves off the cliff. At Kiama we witnessed the blowhole in action before driving to Saddleback Mountain lookout for great views of the countryside and coastline. We are overnighting in Kiama and continuing along the coast tomorrow.
