Day 4
We were both hungry this morning after not eating for 24 hours, but we had our free breakfast to look forward too. Once we were ready we took an adventure into Melbourne's CBD (Central Business District).
First stop was Tourist Information on whats about and how to get around. Once we had our bearrings we saw that St Pauls Cathedral was infront of us and that Flinders Street Station was next to us; both amazing buildings in their own right.
Third stop was Melbourne Central. A large shopping complex with Myer and David Jones which rival John Lewis and Selfridges in the UK. Lorna was in heaven. Just a shame we had no money to spend.
Forth stop was Chinatown. This was more Chinaery than Chinatown in Birmingham, although had more eateries than it did shops to purchase Chinese items. We later had our lunch here as it was very cheap.
Fifth stop was Little Italy; although this was disappointing. There were only a handful of eateries and nothing else, but we decided to chill out in the park.
On our way to our sixth stop we decided to check how much money we could spend per day. This was our BIG reality check...we had to budget...aahh!! We then arrived at the supermarket to purchase some food for lunch for over the next few days. We found a fantastic bargain, $1 for 5 packets of noodles, which worked out at 10p per packet. We were both wetting ourselves laughing at the food we could afford and at who was going to carry the cheapo home brand food. People around us must have thought we were complete freaks.
Seventh stop Parliament House. We went inside for a tour and visited the reception room and learned some interesting facts about Queen Victoria before we headed off to the Green Room where we saw where it all happens. Members of the public are allowed to go inside when they are in session too. Once back to the reception we learned some more facts about the Australian PMs, where we noticed a woman on the tour that we saw at Heathrow, she was as crazy as she looked.
Eighth stop was Australia's National Art Gallery, which was also out final stop for the day. We viewed the following; 'Body Art', 'Asian Art' and 'European Art'.
Our stroll back to our hostel begins and you'll probably wondering why we are mentioning this, but its interesting. We were minding our own business before the heavens decided to open; we had no jackets and there was no shelter, so we just had to weather the storm. We got soaked through and looked as though we had been in the shower with our clothes on...but we found the funny side to it. We later found out the day that today had the worst winds in years; breaking trees and roads being closed off.
