Day One in Lisbon. We arrived in the wee hours of the morning. It took us about an hour to get through customs, pick up luggage etc. We found a cab right away and had a smooth ride to the Lisbon Marriott. The plan was to drop luggage and explore. Marriott was awesome and gave us a room after only waiting a few minutes. I’m thinking it’s payback from all those business trips Bill took while I shared KD with the kids back home. Wonderful. We had a wonderful breakfast at the concierge lounge then showered and I begged to have an hour nap. Well that stretched a little longer. It has been pouring rain all day so when we were ready to do our planned Rick Steves walking tour we decided that did not make sense. We grabbed a cab and headed to Columbo Mall. Interesting people and fashion watch that ended in, yes I’m in Europe, hazelnut gelato. We decided to brave the walk home in the rain using our gps on the phone. That worked pretty well until Bill announced Oh No the map is gone. I suggested we walk up to a little higher ground to get our bearings. All was lost and the rain continued. I then Heard Bill exclaim with glee, I see it, it’s the Marriott. The glee I’m sure had something to do with the fact that we were both soaked through everything beyond our jackets. Also I’m not knowing for enjoying being soaked in the rain. We continued to the Marriott and low and behold we had been gifted a bottle of wine and some roasted chestnuts. Perfect. Dinner will be light tonight and bedtime early. It’s a train to Sintra tomorrow.

HArold So the off line gps was just a glitch. Or does it work well. Sounds like a pretty fantastic first day
Dominique Glad you made it there safely, the wine and hazelnuts sound delicious. We're heading off to Mexico tomorrow so we'll follow your blog while laying on the beach, love you!
Bill The Offline Maps worked well however you can not determine a walking route without WiFi. Then once you have the route if you move off it significantly then the map disappears. I will try the other application to compare.
Lorine Enjoy your trip to Mexico. Wow that was a quick decision. I’m glad you’re able to get away, I know Harold really needed it.
