Day 6: 14/6/13
We were up at 6:30 this morning for breakfast and then we had another chance to go snorkelling. We only had about an hour before the boat was going to have to head back to land so lots of people didn't bother snorkelling. I thought I might as well as I don't know when I'll be snorkelling again! Apparently there were jelly fish near where we jumped in but I didn't see them. There were lots of clams around. All you can see are these purple colourful squiggly things on the rocks and when you swim close to them they start closing up! There were lots of fish again but nothing very strange!
After snorkelling we just chilled on the boat while the captain sailed back towards the land. There was a gorgeous view of Airlie beach as we sailed in. It's like a Meditteranean town or something with terracotta houses in the hills.
There were a group of us all staying in Nomads so we headed there together but we couldn't check in it so we made arrangements to meet together as there was a pub we could get cheap food and drink in if you had the wristband to show you were from our boat. We all went our separate ways then for a few hours.
I went to the lagoon and beach for a wander around. It's beautiful. The sun was splitting the stones, there were palm trees lining the beach and the sea was full of little boats. Of course I took a million pictures!! I wandered around looking at a few souvenir and tourist shops then. I was looking at postcards and our pictures of Whitehaven beach are as good if not better than the postcards! Obviously we got a really good day!
I went back to the hostel then. I still had damp clothes from getting wet in the rain in Cairns and the clothes I had on the boat were all damp and wet too so I reckoned I better wash them before they stink out my whole rucksack! While I waited for them to wash and dry I saved photos onto my computer and uploaded some onto Facebook and the blog. It took me ages to pick a few to put up as I have so many! Even still I ended up putting up loads! I chatted to Mam and Dad for a few minutes aswell before they headed off to work.
I met some of the English girls from the boat- Lucy, Liz and Katie at 6 and we went to the Down Under bar where we could get a meal and drink for $10 as we were on the boat. In Melbourne a pint alone is $8 so that's pretty good value!! We stayed there for a good while. Jess and James that we had been with most of the time on the boat came letter and all the rest of the boat people were there too. I still didn't get to talk to half of them! There were people from other boats too but still not a huge crowd. We all got free fruit punch or something. It just tasted like apple juice. I don't think there was any alcohol in it at all! We just sat chatting really, had a game of a supersize jenga and watched a load of fancy dress people who were well togged out!
We went to another pub then for a free drink but there weren't many there. We decided to go back to the hostel then and get some sleep. It was around midnight at this stage, so we'd been out for six hours. Some of the girls had to get a bus at nine but at least I could sleep in a little. It was a good enough night, but nothing majorly exciting happened!!
