Day 8: 16/6/13
Happy Fathers Day, Daddy!!
I didn't sleep much at all on the night bus. I was turning and twisting the whole time. I might have slept about two hours in total I'd say. There were only about 12 people on the bus so we'd plenty of space but I just couldn't get comfortable, especially when the bus kept stopping and starting and pulling up for breaks.
We got to Rainbow beach at about 9:30am. I couldn't check in until 11 so I went in search of a cafe for breakfast and the made my way to the beach and finished the book I got yesterday. The beach reminded me of Summer Bay with a surf club near the beach. Even the wooden fence near the walkway looked like the one in Home and Away. I sat on a bench for a little while reading and there was a Coleen Smart lookalike and everything!
I walked on the beach for a whole but it was really cold. The water was freezing too. There were a few people sunbathing or paddling but not too many around. It was a nice long beach and it was even nicer that it wasn't crowded. While I was reading I heard a funny noise and realised there were about 7 horses behind me- children were being brought on a trek- it looked like good fun!
I went back to the hostel after a while and checked in. I was the first in the too and got to pick the bed. There was an ensure bathroom too which was spotless. I decided to sleep for an hour or two as I had a headache from tiredness at this stage. It was cold though even with my clothes on- so I'd say Fraser Island will be freezing!!
I started to sort out my things and then text Dad for Father's Day. In my confusion sortin out my stuff I managed to sit on my phone and it rang Dads number- I'm sure they were delighted with a call at 7am!!
We had our briefing from the Fraser Island trip at 4:30. One of the girls from the Whitsundays trip was here and she ended up being in my jeep. She hadnt thought she was doing the trip tomorrow but now she was. There was also an English girl who had been in the hostel in Melbourne for a few nights. I didn't recognise her at first because I think I only spoke to her once. She had been back late other nights when I'd been in bed and then I'd been up early. She recognised me though!
We had a talk and then had to watch safety DVD's mostly about driving the jeeps. I said I'd drive but Im not bothered if I don't. We have five boys in our group of 8. One of them said he'd drive all the time and he wasn't planning on drinking at all. He told one of the other guys that he didn't want him to drive as he knew he'd be drinking. The other guy didn't respond but I'd say there could be arguments over it! We filled a form to order some drink and it will be in the jeep tomorrow. I ordered some this time.
There was a meal offer in the hostel so a lot of the Fraser people got that. I was sitting with some of the girls and they all seem friendly- very young but nice!!
I went back to the room then to get an early enough night to recover properly from the night bus before starting the Fraser adventure!!
